If you are self-employed and someone at an event lending itself to networking-till-you-get-kicked-out-of-the-joint-to-further-your-career approaches you to say they follow your work, and your response consists of “I can talk later” (and you don’t; and act as if you could care less) and you have NO idea who they are or what they do for a living, you probably need to rethink yours.
